I have an 09' street glide that has had a problem with its voltage gauge. The needle flicks from about 12 to 16 but only after you have bike on road for 5 to 10 miles . It started happening at about 7500 mi ,took to dealer under warranty they changed out gauge. It came back after about 500 miles. Dealer said it was feedback from J&M amp and speakers, removed them, still same problem. Took back to dealer now changing gauge again! So far 6 trips to dealer 9 days with out bike losing patience!!! Bike starts and runs ok , just want to get gauge issue cleared up before warranty up. Anybody ever hear of something like this? One guy said check VR connections tech said he did that. Stereo did seem to make gauge worse but after removal still same issue.
Tech also said that if VR was bouncing from 12 to 16 volts it would have shown up on multimeter and also fried battery. It just seems that something is causing gauges to go bad.
The regulator is a part of the charging system. Even if the problem is with the regulator rather than the alternator, it is still a charging system problem.
One guy said check VR connections tech said he did that.
Thompson,
That was me who said that...
That doesn't mean you have to believe him'
check yourself too! Especially the one down the
right side right up against the frame. Spray it out
with some contact cleaner or something...
I mean, maybe that's not it BUT, I would be damn sure
I personaly ruled that out and not just taken the word
from some dude you don't even know...
Thanks for all the tips, I still think it's possibly something that is causing the gauge to bad. New gauge in going to put some miles on now to see if it lasts....
