"Have always kept the exhaust stock, that's why I'm asking."

Wow... a forum... to get your blood pressure up over that... life is to short. take a break and go ride your bike to calm down.
It's just so Ironic that people think that Harleys are 100% american made....

Go ahead and ***** UP your bikes...make them SOUND and RUN like ****.. You people amaze me. you spend 10k to 20k for a harley, then want to go CHEAP? Why? Quit buying them chrome doo-dads, doo-rags, vest, patches, shirts, attending rallies, dinner rides, breakfast rides, lunch rides, and spending money at Bike Night, YOU might have enough money saved to purchase a quality set of pipes that will enhance your Harley riding experiences. Maybe you should carry your CHEAP A$$ back to the jap bike you came from.
As far as the sound, that's totally in the eye (or ear in this case) of the beholder! There are quite a few aftermarket pipes that I personally think sound like ****, as you eloquently put it. But people are still putting them on. As far as run like ****, I think that varies quite a bit as well.
Now, I popped the baffles open on my 2003 Lowrider (used a 1 1/2" steel pipe) and they sounded great, and didn't experience any problems with how it ran. BUT (and a big but at that!), I only did it to get a better sound while I was trying to decide what pipies to get. Two months later I picked up the set that I really wanted. On top of that, I have a carb'd bike, so I'm not sure how that affects FI bikes (probably not much though, as you typically don't have to remap unless you swap the air cleaner as well).
Guy asked an honest question jeez.

Well folks thats the way I see it. Don't agree then thats your perogative. When I do something on my bike I don't go cheap, I do it the correct way and not cut corners. I have learned that if you do it right the first time out, then you will realize the benefit and cost savings incurred.
