Default Voltage

I have an '06 EGC, and have been having voltage issues. The battery is only 6 months old, but the engine light has been popping on and giving the code low voltage. My gauge will show around 10 volts, and then jump back up to around 14. I was discussing this with another bike owner with the same year bike, and he said there was a factory recall on those voltage regulators in '06, and that his bike had the same symptoms. My bike was purchased used in '07, but I never got any recall notice, understandable, but I am wondering if they will take care of the problem??? If not what does a voltage regulator usually cost???

What's your VIN number and I'll run it. Also check your battery connections to make sure they're tight.

Your bike isn't listed under the campaign history as being affected by the voltage regulator recall. I would check all the connections at the battery and the frame grounds first, then test the regulator and charging system.

I hate to sound like a total dumba$$, but how many ground frames, and where would they most likely be?? I "think" my battery cables are tight, but I will double check. As far as the checking the charging system, that is out of my capabilities.

Yesterday, I sat down and started with the battery. The negative connection was not very tight and had some corrosion on it. Cleaned both. Then I started tracing down the grounds. They were also corroding, so I cleaned those up. Then I took the voltage regulator off and cleaned the connections as well as the mounting bolts. Put it all back together, and made a few short runs around town. I drove it to work this morning , and so far so good. No codes, and the volt meter is reading where it is supposed to. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I got the problem solved.
