Save the cat head pipe (In case you have to go back to cat for some reason such as EPA Troubles) and purchase an aftermarket 2-1-2 headpipe would be the best avenue to go with.
I am keeping my stock pipe and buying an extra stock pipe. I cant see spending $450 on an aftermarket one when I can buy a stocker for $125. I'm sure the aftermarket one's perform better but I can spend $450 for something else. Like a PC V and a/c. I already have the Jackpot Dyno tuned slip on's.
I'd put on a thunderheader and be done with it.In fact, that's what I'll be doing with mine when I get my new bike.As far as a reason, more power, better sound.Same reason you are getting rid of the cat now?
One thing I am confused about is Fuel Moto's Dyno charts. They show a 2010 bike with the Jackpot mufflers, a/c and PC V putting out 79.35 hp. Then another chart shows the same set up with their head pipe cranking out 79.27 hp. I don't get it. Looks like the stock head pipe performs better.
I am guessing the above is the Dyno Chart your referring to. 2010 Harley Touring models: Here is a dyno chart for the 2010 Electra Glide that shows the gains from the Jackpot 2/1/2 head pipe directly compared to the stock head pipe. This test was done on the same bike on the same day. This bike was equipped with Jackpot Dyno tuned mufflers, Stage 1 air cleaner, and Dynojet PC-V
Looks like the Jackpot head pipes puts out 5 more horsepower and 6 more lbs of torque over the stock head pipe with the cat. That was on a 2010 year model.

Even on the 2009 model equipped the same with Jackpot headpipe vs stock head pipe. The Jackpot head pipe allows 1 1/2 more HP and 4 more pounds of torque.
That is looking at the Dyno sheets posted on the page above and reading the descriptions

This is from Fuel Moto's website on a 2010 96" touring with their head pipe, dyno tuned mufflers, a/c and PC V. I got to this chart by navigating to their exhaust/head pipe section.

Different Days, different bikes, Temps can all have a factor as far as I understand...The best comparison, is the bike that compares the 2 headpipes...also the pipe temp by your foot will be greatly reduced. If I where to get a 2010 or newer, the first thing to go would be the Cat.
Yes and no. The 09 did not have a CAT except in Cali. Unfortunately the bungs for the o2 sensors are different between 09 and 10. It would require some modification.
The 09 headers would work if you change the bungs from 18mm to 12mm. The O2 sensors are near the exhaust ports on the 09 and near the drivers right foot peg on the 10. You would have at least reroute, maybe even add some length to them (front one for sure)?
The Vance & Hines head pipe for the 10 requires you to reroute the rear O2 cable close to the exhaust port and has plenty length.
