Default Ultra: Do you look through the shield or over it?

Just wondering if any of you picked up the lower shield for the Ultra?

Do you prefer to look through the Ultra shield or over it?

Just curious what your preferences are.

I look through it. Optical quality is pretty good, and noise is diminished around the helmet. I used to always look over the windshield on earlier models with a road king style windshield. They were enough different to work well while looking over it.

The edge of the windshield cuts right at my field of view. I tried the HD windshield that is 3" lower, and that wasn't the solution -- it made the wind incredibly rough over the top and buffeted my head too much. The tall windshield isn't my idea of fun either, as it make the bike look out of proportion.

Sooo, I stretch sometimes and look over the edge, then sometimes I just look through it... Being just under 6' tall sometimes has its disadvantages.

One suggestion that has appeared more than once on this site is the special shaped windshield that slopes back toward the rider, is lower than the stock windshield, but is formed to throw the air up and over both rider and passenger. That is the next investment for this biker......

I prefer looking over my windshield especially when it's raining. Get caught in a bad rain after dark and you'll see why. One of the first things I replaced on my 06 FLHT was the windshield. I bought a 9 1/2 " windshield with a recurve at the top from Clearview windshields (www.clearviewshields.com).

Over, Over, Over!!!!

Looking through in rain is dangerous. Looking through bent Plexi makes your eyesight off kilter. Looking through splattered bugs reduces your vision.

A screen should always be just below eyesight. It will deflect wind over you head, and allow you to see the road.

Anyone that tells you different is an inexperianced idiot rider that just has a screen to break the wind when they are riding in perfect conditions.

Did I say idiot??? sorry, I mean ???? yeah, idiot!

I bought the shorter sheild because the top of the original was right in my line of sight. It the shorter one will stay on til it get a bit cooler out.....like in the 30's. the wind noise isn't too bad with the 9 1/2 sheild.......just get ready to meet the bugs again

I find the 9.5 inch windshield perfect for me even at 6'2" tall. The stock windshield was even too tall for me, looking through bugs and rain drops is at best dangerous. You should be looking just over it for the best protection/visibility.

I know that looking over is much safer especially during rain. However since I live in freaking Texas, where it never rains, that issue never arises for me.

I actually look through and probably because of my height I have just always slouched a little since if I sit straight the top edge is right in my line of sight.

I look over it. I have 3 different windscreens, including the one that comes from the factory. The one I like best is called, "oversized". Looks good (chopped) and still offers good protection.
