Default Parts confusion

Hi all,

I have been banging my head searching the forum and the net for a good source for the parts brake down for an 08 ultra.
Once I have that I need a usable on YEAR data so I can finish ordering the parts I need to put the ultra back together. I really don’t want to pay retail at the dealer unless I have to for parts. All the painted parts I need will get custom paint, so I don’t need the color match new stuff

I need:
Tour Pak lid
Front fender
Front crash bar
Lowers
Front fairing
And I want to convert to the road king classic bag rails.

I really would like to have somewhere I can look this stuff up. Anyone out there have any good sources?

You are only PARTLY correct sir, the parts book doesn’t list all of the years it fits. It’s not that hard to get the numbers, but the years... that’s my problem. Even my local dealer said I would need to buy a "run" of years to see of the part number is the same.

I do question if the last two digits indicate a year code and what it means. Say the number ends in -05 does that mean the part fits 05.

Part two of the question is what parts interchange between bikes.

There is way too much that is not in a parts book.

Just got mine yesterday... a must have, along with the service manual, IMHO!

OK, the touring line for most parts will work from 97-08 (except gas tank). Some parts (such as the front fender, outer fairing, tour pak, saddlebags, etc.) will fit right up to 2010. So to answer part two of your question, you can use an engine guard from 97-08. If you are going to the nostalgic classic rails you will need those from 97-08 and you would have to change the front saddlebag guard rails to the ones with no holes from a 97-08 bike. The reason the lower fairings say -05 is because they changed to the vented fairing lowers and the top cap changed as well. They will fit older years though, as the older years will fit your 08. The tour paks changed in 06 to ABS instead of fiberglass and that's why you will see an -06 after those items, but again they will fit older years from 97 up to 2010, just made from different material and the holes for the 09 and later in the bottom of the tour pak would be different but can be modified.

The past two digits... i.e. -05 indicate the year the part was modified from the previous version. That MAY mean it fits that year, but it also MAY fit subsequent years until the next modification. I know this probably doesn't help, but it does explain the last two digits.
