Mine has never given me a minute of grief.
I needed a between the forks air baffle and a recurve windshield though.
Other than that you dont "need" anything

Rent one for the day, the air buffetiing was really bad for me and had a hard time adjusting. Got use to it, several size windshield, fork baffle etc... later. I couldn't imagine being on anything else now. I came from a non fairing/ windshield bike to a batwing and it really surprised me how different ( dirty ) the air flow was. I figured how bad could it be I came from no shield to a batwing with a small windshield anything is better then nothing, but thats the furthest from the truth. You won't be sorry just expect it and customize it to be your own thats half the fun.

Other than the buffeting that cool looking stock windshield will give you! I have no complaints!! Great bike!!
Maybe one other thing! If you are going to do more than take a chicky around town for a warmup! The stock seat is worthless for 2-up riding any distance!! I bought a Sundowner and the wife loves it!!

1. Shorter rear shocks do not ride as nice as the others. (probably still better than your current ride though)

2. Stock windshield next to useless unless your really short. (windsplitter is a good choice to add function but keep a low profile look)

3. Worst stock seat in the lineup

4. Some people don't like the fairing mount mirrors.

5. Cheap SOBs put streamliner floorboards, passenger pegs, and brake pedal, then use the cheesy looking shifter peg. (I think the streamliner peg is only $15 though)

6. Silver faced gauges are a bitch to read at dawn/dusk.

Other than that, great bike.

The 09 StreetGlide is what brought me to HD. I love this bike. I will own it until I can't ride any more.

"What they said"

1) The shocks were the biggest surprise to me (although, probably much better than your current ride) Thought I was on a V-Rod with some of the bumps.
2) Seat became a pain on rides over 2.5 hours
3) The flow of unstable air from under the fairing is a real issue with buffeting

However, I love the bike. Of course, I always want more torque/horsepower with the same mpg (45?)

No pitfalls whatsoever with mine. Love it. Have done some good mods, but just like any other Harley you will customize it to make it work best for you.
