changed my primary fluid and checked the chain adjustment and when I put the covers back on I torqued to spec but didn't use loctite....should I have? Also, should I use loctite when I put the passenger floorboard on?
I think you should have but I wouldn't lose sleep over it. I removed and installed the right side passenger board many times without LockTite on the old one when changing oil and the nut never came loose.
I started using LockTite Blue on most fasteners over the last few years. There are two applications where I don't use it: (1) if a screw is going into plastic that I would want to remove (don't know of any on the HD) or (2) when the fastener is threaded into those flimsy spring metal clips like those for the windscreen.
I use it on everything on the bike. That being said, I have forgotten it a few times, no big deal, if it's tight it will stay. Of course, I'm assuming it ain't no shovel or pan, with those I just dip the whole bike in loc-tite after assembly.
That's part of the fun of having an HD heating everything up before wrenching it and getting to glue it back together just don't leave the wife's hair dryer in the garage.
I actually use anti-seize on the passenger footboard bolt since it has a lock washer on it. The derby cover screws get cleaned and reinstalled since so many have had problems with breaking them off. I just keep an eye on them and use the proper size torx bit (T-27). Blue on everything else except where the SM specifies red.
