Rolex watches are almost like hard currency in most parts of the world. If this is something you've been wanting for several years, then get the watch. Be careful, though, watch collecting can get very expensive very quickly.
A two tone Submariner is a classic and will be something you can hand down to your children. They do take maintainance, though. Be prepared to spend about 300 bucks every five years or so to have the watch gone through at the Rolex service center.
The stainless Submariner I've worn daily for almost 15 years was a 10th anniversary gift from my wife, and if I only owned one watch, it would be the one.
Now, go over to the watch time forum and ask if you should spend the money on a motorcycle engine.
In 2001 when I bought mine, a ss date submariner was $3200.00, today that same watch is close to $6000.00
My dad bought a gold presidential back in 1985, it was a bit over $3000.00 then, anyone want to take a stab at the value of it today? You could buy a new Ultra and have $$ to spare.
No part that you hang on your bike will ever appriciate or even hold its value like a Rolex.
Strange question. One is an investment, the other is a consumable. If you're interested in investment & appreciation of value, go with the watch. OTOH, if you're looking for fun, get the motor.
You start destroying the motor the minute you start it, but that destruction can take years & provide enjoyment & memories that a watch can't. I enjoy a good watch & have several, but both the watch & motor are just tools & I prefer the enjoyment a good motor can provide over the enjoyment of staring at a good watch.
Tough decision? You cannot begin to imagine the shear joy of having a big inch motor, one with enough grunt to make you anxious every time you grab a handful of the wick. One with enough grunt that roll ons will be something you encourage. One that stands out in a crowd just by the rumble it makes running.Never forget these motors are very relliable and can be refreshed.A Rolex, hard to make a comparison since I own watches but never wear them.Good Luck.
