Default Broken header pipe

I was happily banging along at a fair rate of knots over the speed limit with a few mates round the South Island countryside 7 weeks ago. I noticed a change in engine tone and slowed to try and figure out it's cause. Soon after we pulled in at a gas station to gas up and head in different directions and that's when my mate looked down at my exhaust and asked what's up with it. I looked down to find the weld directly in front of the butterfly valve at the **** end of the header had snapped clean thru. All that had been holding the exhaust up from plowing into the road was the cable to the valve in the stub of header still attached to the exhaust.
Pretty frightening when I think of the possible consequences for me and my lady when riding at speed if the cable hadn't held the exhaust up. I manged to secure the exhaust to the heat shield using a hose clip and limped home.
I called my dealership who took the details and started the process of a warranty claim but it seems that since I had a hairline fracture to my V&H exhaust (caused by the HD products failure which I wanted replaced under HD warranty) it fell in the too hard basket. Apparently details were sent from the dealership here in NZ to HD in Australia who then referred to HD USA and back again. My near new Ultra ( yeah an "Ultra" not an "Okay" or a "She'll be right") got picked up only 2 days ago and due to waiting for parts it's gonna be maybe another week or 2 till I get her back. That's 2 months off the road.
I have no issue with the dealership here cos they have to follow HD protocols I guess but HD have to remove their fat bogey picker from their derriere and respect their customer better.
So watch out for your header giving way on any header system '07 and up I guess. Oh and did you know your clutch isn't covered by warranty even when it's done barely 2000 kms in 4 months since new? But that's another story....
BTW I'm not good at this kinda stuff and can't figure out how to get a pic in this thread so I loaded one in my album if you're interested.
Stay safe.
