I just bought a vivid black '10 Street Glide after having 2 Road Kings. I think the Road Kings are a great motorcycle, but that stripped down look of a Street Glide kept saying, "buy me - I'll make you happier than the Road King". Well, I've only got 100 miles on it and I love it. I'm 6' 3" and it fits me to a tee, so I don't have to change the seat or the handle bars like I did the RK's.
I will, however, have to buy a windshield that is higher than 4".
if don't ride more then 20 miles at a time or go over 50 miles an hour you will only be somewhat impressed and happy about your decision to go with the SG.
BUT, if you like longer rides and highway speeds .. then your biggest problem will be picking the occasional bug that gets past your fairing out of your teeth as you are smiling like school boy that just found his Dad's stash of Playboys.
I got mine at the end of the year (in the middle of the worst winter jersey has seen in YEARS) and i have over 2000 miles on it already.
Lets see what do i like best..... riding 200-300 miles and getting off the bike NOT feeling like i just got in a bar fight??.... doing 80 down the highway with one hand (right or left..your choice cuz you have cruise controll)??....listening to all my favorite songs on my Ipod or CD as i enjoy the ride??.. or having two nice big lockable saddlebags to bring along whatever i think i might need cuz i'm out riding for the WHOLE DAY.....!
Don't worry about feeling......ya know...cuz your riding a "touring bike"..these new SGs are slick and as cool as anythying to roll around town on...with just as many accesories and upgrades as anything else to make the bike as bad *** as you want it to be.
you'll also be blown away at how easy it handles too.. i never thought i could flick around 800 pounds so easily...
p.s. my last bike was a 98 Fatboy...so it was a HUGE step up
