Default adjustable backrest

I have a adjustable rider backrest. The hydraulic cylinder has frozen in the fully extended or forward position. It does not appear to be serviceable and of coarse its only a 150 bucks to replace. I wanted to wait til winter to replace it. Is there anyway to get it to retract so I can at least set it at a reseonable position. thanks in advance
