Default HK Radio and Aftermaket Radio Advice

I'm starting to have problems with my HK radio theres no volume at times and I have to turn it off and back on to get volume. It's still under warranty...but I have read so much on how the HK radio is a POS. I'm thinking of buying a aftermarket raido and a install kit so my hand controls will still work. What would you do... let HD fix it or just buy a new radio? If I do buy a new radio what's the best radio with a USB port on the front face and with LED backlight bright enough to see in sunlight?

In my opinion, I would stick with the HD radio. The main reason is because it is waterproof. Biketronics kit has a clear plastic piece that will cover an aftermarket radio during a storm but seems to me like it would be a pain to deal with.

On the road, I use my ipod thru a headphone amp with Shure earbuds. I installed (2) 3.5mm jacks on the bike and one for the ipod input. I burned 2 cd's in mp3 format to use during beerstops. Each cd has about 125 songs on it.

Default Get the HK radio fixed under warranty.....

then sell it if you want the Sony/Biketronics setup. You can get $500 or so for the HK on ebay. I have the Sony/Biketronics setup - works great. Yes, the plastic shield is a nusiance once in a while but its really not that much of an issue. But by all means get the HK fixed since you have warranty and it has saleable value.

I would definately keep getting the HK replaced or fixed as long as the warranty last. When it expires, then you can look at aftermarket head units, or try the guys at iron cross, they get great reviews here
