Very sad indeed. Like others have noted, it's hard to figure out what went wrong without knowing the details.
With that said, knowing how to stop your bike quickly in a panic situation may just save your life someday. Practice regularly, with and without passengers. Know how long it takes to stop going 70, and use that as a guide when following others on the freeway. And remember, even if you stop perfectly, if the guy behind you doesn't, you're still toast.
+1, +2, +3 for the response of FLHTCU Owner's response.
Will you guys stop blaming every motorcycle rider for every accident!
Accept the fact that there are IDIOTS driving cars and that THEY cause motorcycle DEATHS!
Ride In Peace
Of course there are idiots driving cars, and if the lady in this story slammed on her brakes on the freeway to avoid hitting ducks, then she is an idiot, and should be held liable. But like I said, we don't know the facts.
But almost half off all motorcycle fatalities are single vehicle accidents, with no other vehicle involved. Hard to blame those on idiot cagers.
I feel very bad for this family. Not sure how this could have happened, but either way its very sad. I had a similar incident happen up in Montreal driving with my wife. We were on the highway about to cross the St. Lawarence river (its 4 lanes). I was traveling in the far right lane and there was a approach ramp upcoming with a LEO with his lights on coming up that ramp...well wouldn't know it all the traffic came to a complete stop (we were doing 65 mph). They actually stopped!!!!!! Now this approach lane had its own lane to get onto the interstate...there was NO reason for cars to stop...but they did it anyway and we went into a skid. I was able to keep the bike upright luckily...but it scared the crap out of us. Just another example of idiot drivers.
How many riders on here are actually ready for a car to slam on the breaks for no apparent reason? This is a far cry from traffic or any other seen threat. Hard to see a frakin duck on the pavement in front of a care.
That women is a complete f**** moron. She decided that ducks are more important than people. f** her and I hope she f*** dies slow painful death.
She should be charged with 2 counts of vehical homicide at a MINIMUM.
I'm sure PETA will step up and provide console. A duck is a pig is a boy you know. F*** moron.
And for those here blaming the rider. shame on you. Even if there was a 4 car length gap to the car..not gonna stop in time if the moron in front of you slams on breaks for no apparent reason.
What a tragedy There seems to be more to the story than they reported. Several years ago I hit a vulture in the road doing about 70mph. The dam bird came up over the hood and broke my windshield. I can understand stopping with caution . what if it was a person in the road. It seems if you run into the back of someone if your in a car or on a bike you were following to close. Hard to tell from what they reported what was the whole story. Stupid drivers are limited to cars there are stupid and careless riders as well. I had bikes pass me when I was doing 80 mph like I was standing still. Never less I feel sorry for the family, its a sad thing
