I posted a while back regarding oil consumption (see below link). You all told me a valve guide or guides are more than likely the problem. I have decided to have HD do a leak down test first. I'm asumming it will not be good news. From there I'm going to take on the chore of doing my own work. I'm planning to R&R the heads and have them sent off to a machine shop that specializes in HD. My question is, do I just do a valve job or dump some money into them? Or ask for advice from the shop? We're planning on keeping the bike.
Yes, 05 has "valve-itis" as we call it. Are you planning a big bore or just getting the heads fixed? If it were me, I'd get the valves/springs done and have them ported and do the big bore.

After reading and doing some home work with the manual, I thought this might be a great time to do just that. Sort a thought 95 or 103 inch..?? After price checking, it's just not in the budget.
Are you now scraping the whole idea or still going to get the heads fixed?
Years ago I went up to Portland and talked with Dan Baisley about him doing the heads on my old RK. It's gone and I never had him do work but still would like to have him do my heads on the Ultra!
I grew up in Albany and my Mother and a sister live in Keizer so I know your neck of the woods.

Good luck!
Still going to go with the head work. I did have a buddy throw a name at me out of Portland.
Here's some web stuff, there is tons more, he's been known for quite some time now on knowing his HD engines and heads are his specialty. Probably not cheap though but he knows his chit!
In case you haven't thought of it, you might check ebay for cvo heads.
If the name that got passed to you is Greg Coen, stay far, far away from that guy. He's all talk and ego. Plus, he blew up my motor and told me to have a nice life.
Valve seals on the 05's and early 06's are crap. I just ordered a set of the blue, silicone seals from Bean at Bigboyz. Great guy, shipped immediately upon paypal payment of $15.
Check out his website for a thorough review of the issue, complete with very nice pics and specs.
