1000 mile check-update
1. She runs a hellof a lot smoother now. When I dropped her off it was after a 170 mile jaunt thru the Rocky Mountains and, well, it was rough. I said Monday morning that if this is what HD brags about as a smooth ride I shudder to think about how it was before the ’09 changes. But the 20 some odd mile ride home from the dealer was like “Buddah”.
2. The previous tank of gas millage was 38 mpg and the one tonight 48. So I am getting, by my best gustimate, 38mpg city/48mpg highway. No complaints here. [ps, that’s with 91 octane fuel]
3. Noob mistake No. 1; or How I registered an ID10T error. I told the dealer that I heard a “hissing” sound on the right side. If it was my car I’d say it was a vacuum leak somewhere. He said it was just air sucking in the air cleaner.
4. Noob mistake No.2; In my previous and only post, “Road King Float”, I mentioned that at Highway speeds I don’t feel the bike is stable. I mentioned this and they took her out on the freeway and the mechanic reported it was just wind buffering on the windshield [and I am sure this 6’ tall 310# rider] and that I was probably trying to force her. Sooo I guess I need to get on the highway and get up to 60 – 65 mph more often and just learn to relax.
All in all I am enjoying the hell out of my new and first motorcycle. I commute 4 – 5 days a week [21 miles one way] and take her out on weekends when I can. All I can say is why did I wait 49 years to start riding?
