Have been riding the RK for 3 years now. Gets really hot during the summer, almost unrideable at times. Running Rinehart true dual. How much cooler would it run if I were to add one of the programers and richen the bike up some?
Trying to make up my mind on trading on a 10 model, or can I get it to run cooler. Thanks for any help on this,
My '09 is pretty comfortable. I've been riding in consistent 95-100 deg days lately. I have a V&H FuelPak though. No complaints at all. I have heard nothing different about the '10's. There are some major improvements to the bike since the '09 came out...improvements that might lean you further towards a new one. Otherwise, it couldn't hurt to try a tuner.
first thing i added was a power commander and had it dyno tuned. That made for better mixture, air/fuel. Bike ran cooler and better. Next thing you can add is a better breather then the stock. Last is slip ons like v&h or something like that. You need a good dyno, better air/fuel mixture, better breather, all will get more air through.
A tuner like a power commander will help also synthetic oil will help..but until you put a barrier between you and the air cooled motor that you are sitting on top of,you are going to have heat issues..try out one of our crotch coolers..they work..or your money back..
I have an 07 also, I put the mid frame air deflectors on, the ones that mount under the seat and protects your inner thighs from the heat, so far its has worked great, and its over 100 every day here.
I think from seat-of-pants here in the desert you will find it runs cooler and the the mid frame deflectors might help. (have not tried myself)
You are already running True Duals but no programmer for air/fuel? I would worry the bike is running way too lean. Not only more heat then from the factory but enough to cause other damage in the long haul. Possibly......I am no expert.

Got an 07 RKC. 7/3/10 spent 30 minutes in very slow parade traffic. Temp near 90. No problem, very little heat. This is from when bike was new and legs and butt got hot at one red light.
First thing was get syn 3 out and put Mobile 1 in. Second, Fuelmoto PClll and cut O2 sensors out , and stage 1 air cleaner. Your choice of pipes.
Great preformance and engine stays cool.
heat comes from a lean tune ,add pipes and it runs even leaner+hotter, add a tuner(wich tuner is for another thread).air intake and or pipes with no tuner and you will cook yourself, seems a feew guys think the pipes and intake make it run cooler this is not the case, its all about the tunning.
