The stock seat on my Road King Custom has got to go. I am a big guy (280), and I ride a lot, sometimes pretty far. I have ordered a custom seat (or, I put my name on their list, whatever). About all the seat maker has told me so far is how much of my money he wants (about $700.00) and how long it will take him to get around to making a seat for me (next month, now that a month has passed). I don't even know how wide it will be. The Zep is 21 inches wide, which might be too wide, but sounds comfortable! A friend has a Zep seat on his Electra Glide, and he really likes it. THE BOOK says the Zep seat (part number 52341-97C) "Fits '97-later FLHT and FLTR models." I wonder if the seat will fit my FLHRS because under the description for the Road Zeppelin Adjustable Rider Backrest (part number 52468-01A) it says "Fits '97-later Touring models (Will not fit with two-piece Road King seats, Badlander seats, Custom Stitched seats and FLHTCSE seats.)" Does that imply that the Zep back rest will fit with one-piece Road King seats? Does it mean the Road Zeppelin seat will fit my FLHRS? Sure will appreciate any helpful information.
Your instinct is probably right on. The Zep will probably look awful; it is probably way too big, but I don't know what the custom seat will look like, either. Thanks for the reply.
Dealers are no help. Seats like this are not kept in stock, so I would have to order one, which means I'd have to pay half down, nonrefundable, whether the seat fits or not. Nobody at the dealerships knows whether a Zep seat fits a Road King Custom, and they don't care. Seats (from all the manufacturers) that fit a Road King Classic do not necessarily fit a RK Custom, and the Custom was introduced in 2004, so nobody has much experience with what fits. Besides, at my local dealership, one with two years on the job is considered an experienced employee.
I ordered a Russell Cycle Products "Day-Long" saddle. It should be here in a week or so. I will ride it 5K miles or so, then post what I think of it.
I ordered the seat from Russell Cycle Products on May 6, 2005. They said my production date would be July 1, and I should get the seat about 3 weeks after that. I called RCP this morning, Tuesday, July 26. -Said they are "running a little behind"; my ship date should be "about this Friday"; and shipping should take about 4 days. Let's see, 4 plus weekend plus ... 4, that means two more weeks, right?
