I just came back to Ohio from the southwest Va. area up 23 to 119 to 77. I saw several semi tires spread all over the road in several places. once there was a whole tire in the passing lane as I was about to pass a truck---could have been ugly. I think this heat makes those tires blow apart more often. Anyways, watch out for those things. Had a good trip down and back but it was sure hot today on the way back today! Another 800 miles on the street glide without a problem. hdsg
So what part of SW VA hdsg? Some good riding in those parts!
Big stone gap-Pennington gap-Norton-Pound area. Yeah ,lots of twisties in the area. Couple of years ago we went and rode the Dragon area-enjoyed that too. Roads in the south lack many of the huge potholes that are here in Ohio!
I ride 20 miles each way to and from work every day and yes the road Gators are out and there to get you. I also pass with authority then slow down.
Ride careful.
I'm a trucker, and for me, the scariest thing in the world is when i'm passing a truck on my scoot! If one of those blows & you're next to it, it's over johnny!
Been there done that. I was on the Ohio Turnpike in the passing lane about 12 feet behind when the inside left rear tire of a Simi-truck exploded. I got hot melted rubber on the windshield and barely missed a chunk of rubber about 2 feet long. I was sure glad it wasn't the outside tire and I was right beside it.
Guy just hit a trash can here driving in the HOV lane. I hit a box that had a roll of roofing paper in it. I had just changed lanes turning left off interstate under the bridge where the road went fr. 2 lanes to 3 and had no where to go. I guess my point is to always have a clear vision of the road when passing or changing lanes. If I had waited a couple seconds I would have had seen it before moving over and avoided an accident.
I've been seeing more than the usual amount of tire shrapnel here in Alabama the last few weeks also.
Besides being a little hairy to pass, those big rigs are no fun to travel behind. The air off them buffets fairly hard. I quickly pass them or slow way down and let them go.
