The rev limit is put there to use, not to save for a rainy day! I ride my bike in top gear from 1,500 to around 4,000, and higher in the lower gears.

Got an '06 with a 5-speed. Makes power from 1500 to 6000 rpm. I usually keep it somewhere between those two points (at 70 mph it's turning around 3100 rpm).

My S&S 107 will run to 6,000rpm. As long as the tacho needle doesn't disappear behind my satnav I know I'm OK!

With the PCIII my bike is comfortable between 2500 and 3000 in 6th. I don't usually go fast enough to get much over 3000 just cruising. Before the PCIII it didn't like 2500 in 6th all that much.

Depends on the gear and when cruising depends on the speed????

Honestly I never look at anything but my gas gauge, oil pressure and temp. I just go by comfort and sound. When it quits pulling in one gear I upshift.

Interesting question since may of have common bikes. Interesting answer because my two bikes virtually the same yet ride vastly different. Dumb part is, the bike with the (slightly) bigger engine isn't as fun nor feel as 'happy' when you ride it. Both are 09's.

An FLTR with a stock 96, V&H exhaust, PC-V and the bike likes to be between 2800-3200, is very smooth and actually feels very rev-happy. It's the weirdest thing. Feels like my old Ducati, happier the more you revved it. However, it pulls oddly strong even from 2000. I don't grab throttle at 2K, I merely noticed it when I go to position myself out of a cager's blind spot. A little twist and it went! Jamie must have sent me the "golden" map for this bike.

Now my black bike is another story. Basically it's the same engine (heads/cam), but it's the 103, same as the Limited. Has no where near the roll on the Roadie has. Run THIS bike at 3000 and it feels like you're asking your grandmother to pick up the pace with a full diaper onboard. Feels a lot rougher as the RPM's pick up whereas the Roadie gets smoother. Roll-on is lazier as well. For now I'm attributing this to the different mufflers (same headers though) and a crap tune. And I'm running the AutoTune on the FLHTP, go figure! Seems the PC-V, even with the A/T, is having a rough go with the exhaust set-up. I'm going to try different bafflers from V&H.

Bottom line for just cruising;
FLTR is 2700-3200
FLHTP is 2400-2900
