I was wondering if someone could help me out with scanning the instructions for dismantling the housings on the bars. I want to put on my caps and new chrome housings but.....my manual is at work. This translates to 70 minutes away. Normally it would be a great excuse for a nice ride, but it is pouring outside right now. Anyone out there help me out? I would really appreciate it.
go to kuyakyn's web site, they have instructions for all of there parts on line, just find there covers and look and the instructions online, should help ya out!
Thanks JD. If these were Kuryakyn parts, that would help a lot. I am trying to put on the HD Chrome Controls caps and the Chrome Housings that go with it. (you know, by the clutch and brake) Thought someone would have a HD Touring Manual laying close to their PC.
Well I finally got my manual from work yesterday. After looking at the pictures and reading how to diassemble the housings I figured I would give it a shot.
Starting on the right side, I shimmed the brake assembly and dropped it down, then I took the two torx screws out and tried lifting the top piece of the housing off. It only comes up about 1/2 an inch. Looks like their is a wiring loom inside that is holding it down. It was getting late last night so I put it back together and wanted to check in here to see if anyone could offer some help.
There is a wiring loom holding the two halves together, but if you remove the lever brackets, you can easily slid the switch housings off. I had to do this when I installed my Cruise Control because they give you entirely new switch housings.
just put my chrome switches on a week ago. inside the right housing the wire loom is held in to place with zip tie that has to be cut. cut the zip tie and the switches will come right out. also make sure you dont loose the brass cable ends for the throttle and idle cables. be patient and careful as the new switches take some careful bending to go over the bases. also make sure that they are over the splined end and snap into place. test them before you put them back together.
hey bounty, a little patience? It took pretty much all the patience I had for that day. The left side was very easy but the right side was a real pain to get everything back together right. [:@] Definitely worth all the swearing once I finished though.
