shimming rockers?

Default shimming rockers?
I want to shim my rockers in an effort to reduce some of the extra noise. Any suggestions on just how tight of a tolerance I should shoot for?

According to manual, if more than .025 end play then you should replace. Having said that, I know of people that shim and leave about .004 space with the shim and are happy. Realigning the rockers (i.e. pushing to the right side while tightening to align the pushrods in center) will also decrease noise as well. Depending on the mileage, you may want to check the bushings and all as they can be out of round. If high mileage, you might benefit from replacing the rockers and supports, etc.

Thanks, Dawg. My front rockers have .011 clearance on both shafts, and my rears have .014. I had heard about pushing them when retightening, but I couldn't recall which way to push them. Are you saying I need to push them towards the intake side, or towards the front when you say 'right'?

Are you just going to try that cuda? Post again if you get it quietened down. I'd like to know what the fix is.

BTW, place the shims on the non thrust side of the rocker arm. Exhaust shims go on left side and intakes go on right side.
