Need help ID'ing this filter/breather plate-filter.jpg

I'm trying to ID this filter/breather back-plate, so I can be sure it's OK to wash and oil, as well as get the proper information to give to FuelMoto for a PC withthe proper mapping.

In any case .... it's on a '99 FLHRCI, and the number on it is A055E4.
When I search that number I find a K&N filter, but with 3 mounting holes instead of the 4 this one has, and (as you can see) this one is marked with the HD logo ....so I'm a bit confused.

Can somebody shed some light on what it is that I have here?

Thanks .......

Gary

I assume you've taken off a cover that normally hides this? It's a genuine Harley kit of some sort, possibly Screamin Eagle, with their logo on it. Harley won't let anyone else use it, although it could be made for them by another brand such as K&N.

The filter K&N recommend for your bike is this one, which does have 4 holes, although it is not round. You could email them for their advice.

Hi Graham!

Yes, the stock SPFI cover has been removed for the picture.

The part number A055E4 'seems' to cross to a K&N, but when I look a picture of that, it does not have the center threaded hole for mounting the stock cover, and only 3 mounting bolt holes ...... so I too think it's some sort of HD part, possibly made by K&N.

The stock breather for this bike didn't mount with 4 bolts (only 3) so along with the need for the cover mounting adapter, I would need to buy a new (stock) back plate.
I would prefer to avoid that additional expense if this filter was stage one, washable and "a known" for the mapping of a PC.

The previous owner also took off the stock slip-ons and replaced them with early SE mufflers part number 65980-97.
These are reportedly more free flowing, and the sound confirms that (as well as a lean popping on deceleration).

I am doing the FullSac true dual conversion and I'm hoping with these part numbers FuelMoto can provide a PC set up for this ....... but only if I can wash this filter.
If not I guess I'll have to buy a whole breather sans cover.

The specialty dealer I bought it through is going to see if the original owner can shed some light, but I though I'd also ask if this was familiar to anybody here as well.

Thanks, and best regards,

Gary

Check your PMs

I have the same filter, it is the Harley SE one for that year. I called K&N, they do not have a proper replacement for it, and the one linked above will not work with the SE backplate you have as it is for the stock air filter housing (at least that's what they said). You can get a similar style oilable filter from Arlen Ness; the Harley one now is not the same.

It's funny, the Harley filter element you show works with the Ness big sucker backplate, so I was able to buy a big sucker that had been crushed on ebay for cheap.

Edit to add, the element you have is cleanable and oilable (and was originally made by K&N)

Thanks James, I was hoping for just that confirmation.

This will save me some significant coin .... times two.
Since getting this bike, my wife has pretty much demanded equal bling $ for every bike $ spent.
So it's getting costly .......... unless I get my 'sneaky' on!

Thanks again, and best regards,

Gary

Gary,

Looks like you're sorted! I used a Fullsac for a few years with great success and replaced the old system with Samson TD pipes recently.
