Default IPod users ?

Seeing if anyone uses an IPod thru their stereo. What I'm looking for in particular is tuning info. I have a Kenwood deck that supports IPod functions and am wondering if the handlebar audio controls allow song changing thru the controls? I know my Sony MP3 player can't do this thru my Aux input. It would be kinda nice to thumb thru songs if the mood strikes. Also, can songs from a MP3 player be transferred over to the IPod as a lot of my tunes were cleaned out of my computer awhile back. Thanks for any info ...

I run my IPod through the auxilliary jack on my '01 FLHTCUI. Doing it that way will not let you control the IPod through the factory stereo controls. You would have to use some type of IPod adapter that would get wired into the audio system.

Is that Kenwood radio on your bike now and if so is it where you can control it with the handlebar controls?

Got my iPhone on a Ram mount on the bars. Sound goes into the "AUX" input on the front of the stereo, and I control the music through the screen.

Yup, the Kenwood deck (KDC-Mp442U) is on the bike. The audio control module is probably the steering wheel module you would use for a car. The audio shop did my install. I can control channel up/down, volume up/down, mute and mode functions with factory handlebar controls. I believe if a stereo has the compatible steering wheel control available that it will work on the factory bike controls. The deck itself has all kinds of face plate controls for the IPod but wondering if the basic functions such as above will work in USB mode with the IPod?

iPod High-Speed Connection: The KDC-MP442U's front-panel USB port also acts as an iPod high-speed direct connection when used with the optional Kenwood USB Direct Connection Cable (113iP101, sold separately) or the USB/iPod cable that comes with your iPod. Using either cable allows you to connect, control, and charge select iPod models with the KDC-MP442U. The USB connection allows your iPod's large music libraries to be loaded instantly to the headunit and sound quality to be maximized through the headunit's 24-bit D/A converter, allowing for a Signal to Noise ratio up to105dB.When your iPod is connected to the KDC-MP442U, you can choose to operate your iPod via the Kenwood headunit's controls or your iPod's click-wheel/touch-screen. If you select to control your iPod from the KDC-MP442U, the Kenwood headunit will allow you to navigate your iPod's music by Playlist, Artists, Album, Genre, Composer, Song, or Podcast (your iPod's click-wheel/touch-screen will be locked in this mode). You can search these categories alphabetically or using a percentage search (0.5%, 1%, 5%, 10%). You can also choose to listen to all songs stored on your iPod at random. The KDC-MP442 will also display your iPod's music file information when in this mode. If you choose to operate your connected iPod via its click-wheel/touch-screen controls, the KDC-MP442U will not display your iPod's music information (the headunit will instead display "iPodMODE") and the Kenwood headunit's controls will no longer operate your iPod. The Kenwood KDC-MP442u is "Made for iPod/iPhone" compatible and supports the following iPod/iPhone model features (as of Nov. 2009):"

It does state you can control thru IPod controls or radio controls but not steering wheel control....

I went with a Pioneer unit that has a USB input for the Ipod and the Biketronics retro kit that connects to the hand controls. The right hand switch will change the song either forward (up) or reverse (down). I haven't had any problems with this product.

I have my IPOD Classic 120gb in the tourpack. It is controlled through the handlebar controls, via my Kenwood KVT DVD head unit. AWESOME for watching music videos, coupled with the Biketronics kit !!

You can't control your iPod throught the Aux input..You'll need a USB type input if your radio claims it's iPod compatable than you should have a USB input somewhere as well..As far as iPod to PC transfers there is all kinds of software out there just do a google search for it..I used 1 from ipodpctransfer.com it worked great and saved playlists as well..
