Default Seat question

I'm another one of those short guys (5'8", 155 lbs) who rides a Road King. I can reach the bars without stretching, and for the most part I'm pretty comfortable on the stock setup. The problem I'm having is mainly that the top of the windscreen is right at eye-level. I can either sit up straighter than is comfortable to see over it, or I can hunch down and kill my back to see under/through it. Also, the closest thing to a garage I have is a lean-to on the side of a barn. The ground isn't very smooth, and with the seat height where it is, I have a little trouble backing the bike into or out of the lean-to. I can get both feet flat on the ground, it's just kind of hard to get the leverage to push the bike backwards over such rough terrain. From everything I've read, the Corbin "solo close" looks like it would solve all my problems, but I'd like to get some feedback from anyone here before I spend that kind of $$$.

Since you like the seat otherwise look into mean city cycles, there a sponser here and a lot of guys swear by them. They can lower, move forward, back etc...

Cut the windshield down 1 to 2 inches with a jig saw- piece of cake. Season the adhesive on some making tape on your blue jeans (so tape does not pull the scratch coating off) and tape off the top outside of the WS. Mark a radius with a sharpie attached to a string, attached to the center screw of the windshield strip, onto the masking tape. Slowly cut to your line with the jigsaw. Finish with some 220 sandpaper. The stock windshield edge is rough as a cob so dont worry too much about getting it baby *** smooth. I cut 1.75 inch off of mine and it ends up being a huge amount to cut off.

I have a Corbin Close solo and it lowered my seated height about 3/4" which was pretty significant- I am 5'7" 180 (big thighs) and it made a significant improvement. As bruce sg said, you can get your seat modified, cut narrower in the front etc. if you dont want to sped the $$ for a Corbin, but the corbin padding is an added bonus for long hauls....

Thanks for the replies so far. It's a 2003. I'm not sure I'm ready to cut down the WS yet. I think the seat mod or seat replacement will take care of that problem. The Corbin padding is looking awefully tempting too.

I cut down a windshield 1" last night- its quicker than an oil change (iff'n yo stay on the cut line ha).

If you go with the Corbin, get the flames on the seat. The flames add a little extra padding , no cost. I own a couple Corbin seats and the one with the flames is a lot softer.
Take a look at the Clearview windshields. The recurve allows riding with a shorter windshield with the ability to have a great view over the top.

My 04 RK came with a Santee Minotaur seat. I'm also a little vertically challenged and this set up works well for me, just the right height and comfortable too. Although I can't speak to the windshield issue cause I run without....

Just in case you end up going this route if all other attempts fail. http://www.tidyville.roadstarclinic.com/windshield.html

Putting down some plywood should help you backing your bike out.
