I went with the J&M's - the 7.25's. They are a bit mid-rangey but that isn't at all a negative thing. When riding, I believe they work out very well and are easily heard thru the wind and traffic noise. I do not have an amp, but would consider one in the future just to have that extra headroom. I'm happy with them.

Hertz 6.5 - better than the ARC's and arguably as good as the J&M's.

I've got the J&M 7.25" speakers in my FLTR and love'em - WAY better than OEM. I find that putting "clean sound" in is critical to what you get out. Listening to FM the sound is fair, but from the CD it can be cranked and stay crystal clear (note: I'm running with the Arc 125.2 amp too).

I went with HogTunes replacement speakers in my '06 Street Glide - $109 for the pair.

Direct replacement for the stock units and sound GREAT. You will be shocked at the size of the stock magnet.

For running without an amp, I've heard good things about the new Boom Audio speakers HD has.

Hertz 6.5 also. Sound amazing even without an amp. Much more efficient speaker than the vast majority of speakers out there. Meaning you don't have to feed them hundreds of watts to get the volume.

No matter what speaker you choose though, realize you aren't going to get much bass going down the road.

I have had Hogtunes, Arc, and now Hawg Wired. I ran amps to all of them. If you are planniong on an amp down the road the Hawg Wired are the way to go. They are by far the best sounding. Just my .02

Got the stock size J&M and very happy over the stock speakers, I really think its going to depend on your own listening preferences. Got a friend that has the Hertz and he says he likes my J&M over his but I thought the Hertz sounded equally good.

Wife LOVES the J&M 7.25 speakers and I think they sound great as well. Very clean sound all the way to 80.
