Default Intake leak test?

I read in a magazine to spray penetrating oil on the intake seals if the idle changes you found the leak well my recently tuned bike was running a little rough @1700 rpm and steady speed so I tried this yesterday in the mean time I found out it was just lean down low so on the way back up to the dealer the idle ran up to 3000 rpm! and would not back down well long story short the pb blaster I used dissolved my new intake seals! not good so now I told the dealer to just fix my intake and retune the bike down low. I guess dont believe all you read![]

Water works just as well. If the idle changes, ya got a broken seal. WD 40 works too

My 06 ultra is in the shop now for the same problem, the bike is 3 mo. old and I have had a hesitation problem since new. The origional dealer has worked on it 4 times, he talked me into a stage 1 kit to help stop it, guess what the rear intake gasket was broken from the factory. the 2nd defect that has been documented as bad form the factory. more to come.

Ya, that article actually said to use penetrating oil......I read it too. You can use many things. Just about anyting that would cause your idle to increase or decrease if you have a leak. Water, starting fluid, carb cleaner, shot of whiskey! Just make sure its nto something that would rot your gasket and cause a leak.
