Default Adjustable Driver Seat back Adjustment?

I have a 2009 Road King with a Harley Davidson Sun-downer seat.

I have also added the adjustable driver seat back rest. I picked up the back rest(Comfort Stitch) and adjustment mechanism of E-bay and purchased the install kit from the local Harley dealer.

Now for the problem, With the riders back rest all the way back It pushes my out of the pocket of the seat.

As you can see in the picture below the front of the back rest is further forward than the back support of the seat and this is the full back setting.

Here is a picture of the mechanism installed. there is only one way it can be installed and there doesn't seem to be any way to adjust it. (shown in full back position)

I feel that it is pushing me forward about two inches from where I set with out it. I also notice with the seat back I am looking much higher over the windshield.

I would like to set further back.

Any one else with this problem or any possible fixes?

I would take a real close look at the mechanisum again, with the seat off I would put the back rest in so you can lever it and then use the adjustment lever and see just how far back and forward it goes, I know on mine if I put it all the way back I cant use it at all because I don't touch it, and it pushes on the back of hole that it comes through in the seat.

I'd say you have mis-matched parts. Probably the wrong bend on the backrest bar???

I've got an adjustable backrest that came on my '09 Ultra Classic. The backrest pad on yours looks like someone has added thicker padding to it. It looks a lot thicker than a stock pad.

The picture of my backrest pad isn't very good but at least you can see it's not near as thick as yours.

I have the comfort stitch on mine and it looks exactly like what he is showing in his picture, but I do have a question now that I look at the picture again, on the bar that goes into the bracket, that the backrest pad is hooked to, does it have a bend at the bottom where it goes into the bracket, mine has a bend to it, not a straight peice of metal.

Ok, I'll go to the local deal tomorrow and see if thay one in stock that I can compare to.

I have been playing with shimming the front of the bracket as noted in several other posts. (Yes I can use the search feature)

First I removed the bracket, and installed two 1 1/4" 1/4-20 bolts up through the holes from the bottom and put nuts on top of them. This is so I wouldn't have to constantly mess with putting the nuts on the bottom which are a pain to reach. This also gave me about a 1/4" of lift on the front.

Went to put the bracket back on, the front holes were to far forward to hit the holes. Took the bracket back off and in a vise bent the front of the adjustment bracket a little at a time till it would line up on the bolts. Set the adjustable bracket back on, bolted it up and put the seat back on and plugged in the back rest.

Sat on the bike and hit the release and to my supprise the thing when back like a recliner.

Took the seat back off a took measurement and compaired to what I started with. (Yes I took starting measurements)

Between the 1/4" thick nuts under the adjustable bracket and the rebending of the bracket to line up the bolt holes I gained a 1/2 of rise at the front.

I now have a little to much and it is gathering the material at the back of the seat. With a little fine tuning and it should be near perfect.

Picture of the seat at current max back position.
