Default Trans Side Cover

I have a 2001 Ultra. I had a BAD leak from the Tranny Side Cover, loose bolts. I tightened them and this slowed the leak but I wanna do this right and stop the leak with a new gasket. Is this job as involved as the Shop Manual says?? Do I have to pull the gearset?
Thanks for any help in advance!!

If it's the gasket behind the 'trap door', yes, it's a pain in the ***. The whole primary has to come off, gear set out, etc.

Thanks Man. I figured the worst but hoped for the best. I'll dig in tonight and hopefully be back on the road this weekend.

Best of luck. I wouldn't wish that job on anyone.

Holy Cow!! Just got my bike back together Saturday, fired her up, with my fingers crossed, started and ran GREAT!!! No noise and NO LEAK!!!!! It was quite a job, but with the manual and some luck I got'er done.
Now, changing the clutch cable and oil return lines.
Off to Las Vegas next month. Only 1,800 miles to get there!!
Thanks for all the advise!!!!
Happy riding...

Take the synthetic oil out and it will seal up.

Why would that stop a leak?
