Best way to get the OLD insert the rest of the way out? I have one thats pulled out about 3/16"
Already got the replacement insert.
You have a few options here:
1. Get a socket head or hex head bolt about 1" long, a piece of pvc pipe 1/2" od x 3/4" long and a washer. Slide the washer onto the bolt, slide the bolt thru the pvc tube and screw the bolt into the insert. Continue to screw the bolt into the insert and jack the insert out. You can also drill out an old thread spool with a hole large enouh for the insert to fit into if you don't have any pvc pipe.
2. If step one proves difficult, try heating the insert area with a blow dryer to soften the plastic surrounding the insert just a bit. Don't use a heater for paint stripping, it will be too hot.
