I actually like to ride w/o one. When I went to buy a new bike I looked hard at the road king. The G/F talked me into the glide instead. I regret making that decision. My only savior is that I have my brothers fat boy to scoot around on.
To the OP. The full face bucket will make a difference. I don't wear one here in OH as we are not required to but when it gets cold here I would wear it on previous bikes.
one of the reason's I went to the RK after my wife got her own scoot. I like the comfort of a bagger, but have the option to remove the windshield. Love my new RK! I just put the Springer bars on it. They do make a difference.
Been riding with a windshield since '74 and won't leave home without one. Took my detachable windshield off once about a year ago when taking my bike to the shop... Didn't like it at all...
And here is one for you guys to ponder... Monarch butterflies...
I really did feel sorry for the guys without windshields on the side of the road wiping the bug juice off there face but to each his own...
I rode mine for the first 2 weeks without one and I was real happy when the UPS chick showed up. The shield I have is the 16 inch, it comes up to just under my chin, I still get lots of wind in my face but do not feel as if I will be ripped off the bike. Perfect.
I used to be one of the guys that swore I would never put a shield on my bike, until I rode with one. Like the way it looks too.
I have an idea for you. Drive across the Mississippi river into Illinois. Stop bike and put/leave helmet in saddlebag . Take off again and enjoy that fact that a helmet isn't tugging on your head. Or call that state rep. of yours and tell him your buddies in IL would like to ride over there without a helmet. In all honesty, I felt like a kite when I first put the 14s on but man it is awesome now. As long as the bugs are in full force. I suppose you get used to it.
Well, that is the great thing about bikes. You should ride the way you want. Riding without a shield is a personal perference. I really prefer mine on when on the highway. Eat a lot less bugs and other things. And for me much more comfortable. I have turned the corner where comfort is getting much more important than looks.
