There's a guy in my MC who got a plaque from BMW for putting something like 58,000 miles on his BMW GS in one year, he set the record for that year. He regularly puts over 40,000 miles a year on his bike. He does all the Iron-Butt rides and Three Flags challenges.

Now that I think of it..... he must really hate is wife and kids!!!

I like to think of it as different stages in life. Different goals and attitudes.....

I remember when riding a motorcyCle was all about who could run a quarter mile the fastest. I was alot thinner back then and didn't carry a passenger who is now my wife of 24 years.

I remember telling everyone who would listen that if I ever got old enough to ride a bike with a windshield, someone should put a bullet in my head.

After ridning a scoot with a windshild for awhile, I REALLY like it, but still wasn't ready to ride a bagger.

I still insisted that if I ever needed a bagger, I still deserved the bullet to the head....... Now I love my bagger more than any other bike I have had.

I finally realized not to trash talk the tRikes, because if I live long enough, that's probablly where I am headed..........

It's all about stages and comforts and priorities. Don't try to explain it to anyone that wouldnn't understand anyway.

Dennis

Chances are if you have to brag on this forum how many miles you put on your bike in a year, you are NOT a tough guy. Chances are if your on this forum, you're not a tough guy. And if you put more than 10 or 12k miles per year on your bike, you have no other life. I like to ride, don't get me wrong, but my family is my priority number one. good luck to you who ride all those miles on your big bad harley, get a real life , please

I feel the same. I ride every chance I get, but most are 50 miles per day, max. Such is life with 2 young daughters. If the cops would let me ride both of them, the 3 of us would put a lot more miles on the bike. But it is what it is, and my primary responsibility is to my family, not my HD seat.

I am only 39, but have been riding since I was 6. So those 33 years have given me a lot of memories, and I wouldn't change 99% of it.

50K not bad... I was kinda like your friend (just got back from a 28 state, 7400 mile ride)... A few years back I was on a multi state ride - at Denny's eating and was pretty proud of the wife and I - biker sat next to us - started talking, he ask about our ride... LOL.. He was on a Gold Wing... Now we can poke fun at "Wingers" all day,,, but those guys RIDE..... I still feel we ride a lot "for us" but I won't swap " I've covered X miles today - to a True Winger...lol'

I really do not care if you ride 10 miles a month or 10K - Just ride YOUR ride and enjoy life.. I am a retired Firefighger and my 'Sig' line about tomorrow is for real...
