I was in accident when a dump truck pulled out in front of me and wife. I managed to slow from 65 to about 5 MPH before hitting the side of his trailer. He then rolled up onto the forks and bent the rim , forks and engine guard. The tab is bent for sure, how can I tell if there is more bent then just the engine guard tab.??
It hapend to me, if any part of the frame including any sheet meatel tabs any dealer is going to write to replace the frame. I was just going about 20 mph into a corner hit some sand layed it down and they ended up totaling the bike.
Been there done that. I bought bike back from Ins. company. They say total cuz tab is bent. How can I check it for any tweek in frame ???
What was included in the estimate when the insurance totaled it? Did the dealer say the frame was bent then or not? I would just go with whatever the Dealer said it needed when the insurance company totaled it.
Did they say it was just the Tab? Or did they say the frame was bent?
Thanks Dawg. That's what I've been hearing. Sooo, can I staighten the tab and be on my way??? Maybe cut it off and weld new one on. I am a fabricator so that wouldn't be a problem.

I am going say if you can get a frame from harley it's not that expensive (granted it depends on the model and year frame). I wouldn't cut on the frame in that area or weld due to the stress and the way its made (at least on the 10 model touring frame it is). Not doubting your skills but just be careful.

I crashed mine in AR a couple of years ago and the tab was bent. Fortunately for me the adjuster missed it and I'm sure glad he did, as it was he still tried to total it but I wasn't about to let that happen. I bent it back and have since buried the speedo and it's runs rock steady and straight as an arrow.
