Default 95 vs 2010

I got to take my old Ultra for a 22 mile hop yesterday. Many things are the same, but many are different.

The EVO (84,000+ miles) runs smoothly throughout the power band while the 103 comes alive at 2500 RPM. The EVO is strong and stable, but feels heavier and is not as nimble. My "six" still fits the EVO's seat and the riding position is as good as the new bike. I enjoyed listening to the EVO roar: still think H-D was foolish to go away from that awesome motor! I missed the improved handling of the new frame and missed the vastly improved brakes. I always thought the EVO needed a 6th gear and missed that as well.

A part of me would love to have him back, but there is no room in the garage and I also know he would just sit and gather dust most of the time. No need for two great touring bikes.

If anyone ever gets the opportunity to visit an old friend (long standing motorcycle) don't pass on the opportunity! It was a hoot.

I totally am with you on this point. I'm still getting used to the way my new Ultra makes power as compared to my old Evo. Nowadays - It's a mind set shift when riding for me - can't look at the tach at 3K or listen to the exhaust/RPM's and overthink it. Just gotta twist where the bike feels like it needs to be and ride. But again - very different from the Evo.

The power is there where I appreciate it most on the new bike, tho...

I know what you are saying!
This summer I 'resurrected' my Ol’ Springer (’88) after almost 10 years of setting idle in the garage!
I’ve put over 500 miles on it now and have enjoyed every one of them!!
It’s not a ‘tourer’, the brakes leave something to be desired and the ride is ‘firm’. It still pulls strong all the way up to 80mph (Eagle Iron intake system & Paughco 2-2 exhaust)! It’s a hoot to ride on short cruises. Still puts a big grin on my face!! It's not for sale...at any price!!!
