Man, you don't have a clue of what your talking about. I used to think the same way and still have some reservations on the really tall stuff but it's a simple fact that you have better control on these type of pipes and since your not slouching over your posture is better and thus they are more comfortable (at least on a Street Glide) and they are not illegal as was mentioned, just certain height restrictions depending on which state your in. OHio is a max of 15" above the seat. Opinions are opinions and facts are facts. Try not to confuse the 2.

I like how the bars peek above the fairing. I guess im at the age where I want everything to be badass, and bars above the fairing.....are indeed badass

Fair enough. Unfortunately (or make that fortunately... so far anyway) I've gotten way too old to pass for a bad-*** anymore but I sure do want comfort so I've gotten accustomed to relying upon a short (10" or 11") set of apes. Yes, COMFORT Mr. Electra Glide, COMFORT

I've owned nothing but Harleys since 79, and everyone of them have had apes on them. One size or another. Don't nock them till you try them. This is my second touring bike and had 13" on my 05 EGC. Now I have 16" on my 2010 EGC and will never go back. I allways say, anything above your shoulders is showing off. I've had 24" on a bike before. not comfy at all on any long ride. But on the other hand, the 13" and 16" are way comfy and the handeling is way better than stock. Once you go ape, you never go back.

My apologies. You're right. In my opinion, they're not comfy, not the 16s and taller that I've ridden on buddies of mines bikes. Range Rat, 10s are not apes as I'd consider them, and are probably comfy as hell. IMO, they don't look bad on fairing bikes, just don't have the same profound effect that they do on Road kings etc, even road glides due to the fairing blocking the look from the front. But as I said, I apologize and this is just my opinion. I'm sure that there are guys who can ride and maneuver 360s in the tightest of parking lots w/ 16 inch apes, but this has not been my experience w/ them, nor do I see most guys who have them in my area riding well in parking lots, or backroads. And in Ohio, they are illegal, and here in Cincinnati, it's enforced pretty regularly. I don't think that it's right, but it is. I've never ridden a bagger w/ apes, only non fairing bikes. If given the opportunity, I will try it out. Sorry.

I have to go along with the term "mini-apes" too Jon, not true apes. I sure do recommend trying some though but if you wouldn't be satisfied with the appearance, then your call. A waste of $ for some folks.
