hey everyone,
thinking about getting some 12" apes from hill country customs for my 2009 street glide. Is this a good place and worth it?? need help guys.
thanks
I can't comment on the brand you're choosing.
But I can comment on the size.
I'm running 12" Yaffe Monkey Bars.
The size is perfect for me.
Very comfortable.
Heard they are good but slow getting bars to you. I just put Wild1 12.5 bars on my 09 Streetglide and should have gone with the 14's as I am 6'3. But still I'm happy with what I have now as my shoulders and neck don't hurt anymore with the new bars.
I'm 5'9 and I went with the 12.5 chubbies as well. I wish I would have gone 14" now as it has a better pullback. Check all measurements to determine what you would really like. I love the 12.5's but I wish they came back just a bit more which the 14's do. You need to take into consideration everything such as height, width, pullback, etc. Oh, my chubbies are still lower than shoulder height even at my size.
A friend of mine just put them on his bike. He bought the prewired set. Took about 2 weeks to get them. Got it installed pretty quick. He said their service was good. His hands are just above the fairing. He is very happy. I think they look good. They are about 2"s shorter than my PYO 12" monkey bars but they are a little wider. Of course, when I measured mine they are a little more than 14". That seems to be the norm for Yaffe.
I guess I don't get it, but why have a batwing fairing bike then put on apes to put your hands above the fairing?? In addition to looking strange, you negate some of the advantages of the fairing.
Guntoter, I'm with ya. Guys like em, and I love em on a non fairing bike, the look at least. I like the look on a road glide even, but on a batwing they just don't effect the look that much. You see grips barely peeking above the fairing. And they're not comfy. And you don't have the control over the bike you have with shorter bars. There's a reason why they're illegal. But, to each their own.
