I am getting ready to replace my rear tire, and by all accounts/searches i should be running the MT90B16 on both the front and rear on my 2002 Road King. Apparently they didn't go to the MU90B16 (140mm width) rear tire until 2004. My question is can i fit the slightly wider 140mm rear in place of the existing 130mm rear tire i have now? anyone out there running a 140mm rear on a 2002-2003 model year touring bike?
I just did the MT front and rear since that's the size callout for the 402's, didn't see the need for the wider MU in the rear. .
Other owners of similar bikes I spoke to have used the MU, I just was not sure with the spokes on the '99 EGC. In any event, the new tires do handle a bit differently than the 402's they seem to roll into turns a bit more smoothly, and braking seems a bit stronger feeling; as if the traction is stickier.
I'm leaning toward just sticking with the MT as it is what the bike usually has on it, and just taking the increased performance over the current 402s that are on there.
I haven't checked the size difference between the MU and MT for some time but I thought they were nearly identical.
I do know that the MU90B16 has a higher load rating which is good.
