09 Road King with American Custom Bombers / slash down with the black end caps - bought the mid range baffles to be able to change them out whenever, but that never happened! I run the system wide open and use a Vance & Hines fuel pack (thought this was a must - system "popped" to much on decel) The system runs on a fine line of loud to abnoxious!! LOUD PIPES SAVE LIVES - UNLESS YOUR NEIGHBORS GET YOU FIRST!!!
Any updates on the American Custom pipes? Are you still happy with them? Has anyone tried their modified headers? Thinking of going with their catless headers and bomber slipons. Thanks.
I put them on my '07 Heritage right after I bought it last year. I love the mid-range sound, but have been reading the posts here to see if I can improve the sound with a few more holes. I guess if I do, and don't like it, I can braze them shut again. When I got the bike, it had stock mufflers on it, and I love the stock Harley look, but it sounded like an air compressor instead of a Harley. And the "plug" has one approx 3/8" hole drilled in it slightly off center. Any gain to be had there with a larger hole?

Casique, I just bought a 2011 RGU and I'm taking a VERY hard look at these pipes myself.
I'd like to hear about any experience with the 103" motor - especially on the RGU.
My A/C pipes are on........they sound freakin awesome. Not sure I will put the mid range baffle in as yet. Kinda quiet. I'll take a ride and see how the noise level is and report back. At idle it is a DEEP Harley tater sound, really nice. I revved them for lil wifey when she pulled in the garage from work and she thought they were louder than the SE's. No way, the ear plugs go in with the SE pipes so as I get older I can hear my grandchildren speaking......Har. At idle they're perfect, when you get on it, well that's where they sorta bark out. Very pleased with the sound and I personally like the stock look............as did my wife.
Just put on a set of A/Cs on my '07 Ultra and I really like the sound they put out with the mid-baffles! These are used and the previous owner did some drilling of the baffles but I do need to inspect closer which side was drilled. If both were drilled I plan to weld up the new holes in the right side baffles to hopefully get a deeper growl.
I also have a PC-V with an SE air cleaner and am awaiting a new map from Fuel-Moto for these pipes and baffles, but it does run real good as is.
Following some of the recommendations of the above comments it should be kind of fun experimenting with the sound.
Make your bike happy, get rid of the head pipes if u have cat.s in there!! That was the single biggest change for making my bike run cooler!! The heat that used to radiate off of those and eventually the whole motor got so hot that I hated it in weather over 80...Now with all of the changes, I have yet to see 250* in 100* temps while riding pretty loaded (the bike) and at speed and stop and go. The sound is important to most of us, but I wonder what happens to real function in the chase??
There is alot of science and engineering behind these motors and exhaust systems and in drilling holes randomly changes back pressures and fuel/air flows through the motor and these bikes run hot from the gate and any changes might be less than perfect for the bike. Sounds like alot of people are doing this and maybe it isn't as bad a thing as I think, but if someone gets extreme with their drill, then????
Anyway good luck and if it puts a smile on your face then who am I to pee in your cereal, right? So ride on!
