The heat shield for the front cylinder stops about 5 inches before it meets the bottom heat shields. Did I get the wrong shield or does everyone have this same shield that is too short?
Got a new 07 Street Glide two weeks ago and just came back from a road trip. Outside of the heat shield I guess I am lucky, I don't have any of the issues with the tranny that some of the other posters are having. I have 2800 miles on the bike and my biggest issue is I can not hear what the engine is doing well enough to tell what gear I'm in without looking at the tach. Gotta make it louder. My other bike is a 00 standard with a Thunderheader and I always could tell if I was in 4th or 5th just by the sound. I have been impressed by the out of the crate performance compared to the Standard when I got it. Hard to bleive that the cruise can hold 65 mph up some pretty good grades without lugging the engine. Never would have believed it before I went up some of those hills.
Yes, there is a gap in the heatshields near the right floorboard. This is by design. As Bountyhunter said, there is a replacement shield from HD (for about $75) that will cover the gap. Or, you can go with an aftermarket exhaust system and replace the HD system completely. For example V&H true dual head pipes will run you about $300.
My 07 SG has no tranny noises nor heat issues as of yet.Pipes arent loud enough to my taste. The bike runs very well so far,no popping or chugging, seems very long legged.Tranny now has different fluid in it from dealer.RED-something,I forget what he called it.After hearing others issues I was leery, even considered cancelling order. So far Im glad I didnt.
