So there I was riding with my wife on the back with a few friends. After the ride I was rated as a medium to slow rider... WTF? I bought my bike to chill and cruise, smell the roses and enjoy the view. If I wanted to fly like a dumba** I would have bought a Rocket.

Your friends rate how you ride? You need to find new friends!
I get laughed at for my riding style. I get the bike running, always give it a 1 minute warm up to get the oil to all parts. I open my diet coke and put it in the holder. I pick the music genre I wish to hear, usually classical or bluegrass and get it running. I get seated, do my wiggle (similar to a golfers wiggle, getting the right position) and proceed down the emptiest road I can find at the speed limit or less if I think it is slippery. I've never been over 4000 rpm. I never ride in groups cause they leave me behind anyway. Then I enjoy the scenery while scanning for menacing mommies and terrible teens. I arrive safely, relaxed and rested, usually only 10 minutes behind the "fast" people. I may be old, but there are reasons I got this way. pretz, your technique is the correct one, it is the rest of the world that is funny.
Reminds me of an old proverb...Two bulls are on top of a hill The young bull tells the old bull lets run down the hill and do that one cow...The old bull says why run when we can walk and do them all.
I ride at my own pace don't care who the fastest is.
