Save your money. They would not sell those warranties if they did not make a profit on them. If peace of mind is worth that much than go for it. Otherwise, chances are nothing serious is going to go wrong if you maintain the bike.

Mostly depends on how much you ride, over 10k a year and plan on keeping for 5 years id do it and every dealer can deal on the warranties cause they are sold in house and only get turned in if a claim is made, plus remember it runs concurret to your factory warranty, a 7 year only gives you 5 years extra. And you can buy it up to the last day of your factory warranty period no need to be pressured at time of delivery. As to getting a refund you only get paid for time left and not at all if youve had to have work done in the period past your factory time period. I dont know if any hd dealers do it, but I have bought several extended warranties on ebay for half the in shop price from metric dealers.

My dealer is quoting a price of $1499 for the 7 year extended warranty on a 07 FLRT.
They will refer to it as 7 years when you're given the sales pitch. The price is for 5 years, in addition to the 2 years that are standard on the bike. Calling it 7 years makes it sound like a better deal.

The problem with these non harley policies is the fine print, they only cover the parts listed if "they fail" Ive seen it happen, say a bolt comes loose and then causes 1k in damage, not covered because the bolt was the cause and it is not listed as a covered part, Harley backs it all unless its caused by some aftermarket installed part.

I would not buy a non-Harley warranty. You want to be in a position where any Harley dealer would honor it.

The reason I did not wait to get the extended warranty is that Harley assesses a sur-charge if you purchase the extended warranty after 90 days from purchase--at least that's what the dealer told me.

Either way, I am not a wrench, so the additional 3 years I purchased gives me some piece of mind. I did wait until close to the 90 day window and talked the dealer into reducing the price I paid. They still made money, I'm sure--but not as much.

One of the main reasons for getting the warranty was for re-sale value. I was thinking that the increase in re-sale price would more than offset the warranty cost and I could avoid doing a trade-in. The dealer quoted a $150 surcharge if purchases the ew after the first 90 days. Originally he quoted a $300 surcharge at time I took delivery of the bike. About a 10 days later this changed to a $150 surcharge. It seems the price of these things is very negotiable since the contract doesn't even mention the price. The contract also has a pro-rate cancellation clause for refund prior to end of term.
The tire and wheel options seemed very expensive with little benefit.
I am still considering it....

I did the 7 yr EW and agree might be alot of money in someones pocket but got it just in case, However I also got the tire and wheel coverage as well, THAT did pay off!! rode my bike to the office couple weeks ago and found that a construction crew working at the other end of the parking lot dropped some sheet metal screws, got one in BOTH tires, pissed way as an understatement. Took the bike to the dealer and they replaced both under warranty. Guess I got alittle back. Had about 5K on the tires at the time.

My neighbor got a better break, anyone familiar with Baltimore's roads can attest to this buddy hit one of Pratt Streets pots lost a rim and tire replaced under warranty by Harley, looks like they didn't make much between us.
