Just ordered some WO577 12.5 apes for my 07 EGC , they will be right at the top of the fairing and at 6'3'' and 250 i hope that i will not have to be so hunched over, only drawback is that it will be colder on my hands in the winter. Going to have invest in a great pair of winter gloves but hoping to be more comfortable all the rest of the time.
When going ape, always reach for the higher limbs, not the low ones. You'll wish you had gone with 16's. Your hands do get a little colder, but hey, your on a Harley, not a Honda.
I recently traded in a Softail Deluxe with Apes for a 2010 Ultra. At 6'3", I am hunched over as well reaching for the stock touring bars. They even hit my knee when doing tight turns. I too am installing the wo577 12.5 inch bagger apes. I'm making my parts list right now as I come across this thread.
One thing that I've learned from having apes is to get the right gloves for the winter. I've gone through a few pair before finding what I think is the best. The Widder brand was plain aweful. The HD brand was alright but shorted out. Now I've got the Gerbing gear heated gloves. They are awesome. Here's the link. http://www.gerbing.com/Products/gloves.html
I put them on my Classic, I live in Florida but have been up north on it in cold weather and the fairing blocked enough wind I did not notice a difference, they are much more comfortable for me but I'm on 5'10"
577's rock
I am 5 11 with a long torso. my hand dont get numb, shoulders and back thank me. Can do 500 mi a day rides with no issues. Good luck with the internal wire job. take it slow and solder your connections on the wire extensions.
Just did them on my 08. Didn't have to extend any wires, just rerouted them to each side of the radio. Had to go +6 on the clutch and brake tho. My Clarks custom windshield seems to help with the wind issue. So far I really like mine.
