Being as I don't have to much equipment for doing metal work, I would probably have used wood blocks and a tie down strap in place of the tie rods and threaded block to accomplish this.

While I don't need to defend myself because I've been riding for 30 years and have logged thousands of miles, my buddy who is a 70 year old Vietnam Vet wanted to drive through Colorado, Arizona, Nevada and Utah but didn't want to waste his time and energy riding through the state of Iowa and Nebraska. At 70 years old, this guy who is about 5'6", rides a 2009 Street Glide with a bad hip and a bum leg.
It's a cool idea and all, but I'm sure more time consuming to attach and remove. When I trailer mine, I compress the front forks half way and strap down the rear from the frame rail under the seat. She is locked down and does not move one inch! Solid as hell!
