Default still can't find bars.......

I'm cross-eyed from all of the web searching for handle bars. So during the past 2 weeks I sat on the Heritage during 2 different visits trying to get a feel for the bars. So I went back to get them today and found out that the ones for the RG are 2.5 to 3 inches shorter than the Heritage bars. When they say "style", thats what they mean. It's bent back like the Heritage bar but it's very close to the same height as my stock bars... If only they had straight risers for the RG(i know, not even possible). So now that I can't do this swap without spending way more cash than I wanted to, can someone point me towards some Apes that dont have alot of pullback? I really can't stand the wheel barrel type bars(makes my pinkies go numb) and my stockers are just to friggin short. They have 3.5 inches of pullback and 7 inches of pullback is the least I've found in an Ape and thats just too much for me. I'd really appreciate some leads.

You have found out that getting bars to fit YOU is not all that easy and now you have a better understands why some of us have a few sets in our rafters, lol.

To start with - I truly believe bars and seat have to be done in combo... IF your seat is right for you then all you have to do is find that perfect bar - easier said than done. One bar that might work for you is the wild1 513 - I loved that bar and had one for several years on a fat boy - When I turned my FLHTCI into a RG, I first tried the 513's great bar BUT I had to scoot forward in my seat, so to keep that bar I would have to have my Corbin rebuilt - Nope.. So, on to the search.. I had a friend that had a RG with wild1 517's on it... I searched here and found a lot of people said NOPE to these because of the pull back and grip feel. I called my friend and he said, not an issue with him and to come over and take his for a ride.. His seat was NOT for me but the bars were great... I ran those for the two years I had my RG - then I went back to the EG..

note, the 517 do have that pull back you say you do not like but they were great for me... thats part of the problem, we all have different likes...

take a look

harley0711, u feel my pain. You're dead on with the seat part. The Badlander seat puts me down low and back, just like I like it, but this took me away from the bars. Bars with less pullback tend to have more adjustability in them when it comes to setting your height. I was all over the WO's for about a week and came to the conclusion that they really didnt have anything for me and at that time seemed too pricey. But now compared to the custom bars(which have the specs I'm hunting but are WAY to Custom for the rest of my bike) the WO's ain't all that expensive.
My FLTRX, Fire-Medic, what range of adjustment do ya'll have vertically with the KW+2's? Are those the Sweeper bars in the pic?
Thanks fella's.

The wild1 513's are a great looking bar and just might work for you... the are kinda like the WG stock bar but just a little more of everything,,, I know that doesn't meant much but its a start... Have you looked at the numbers for your current bars and compared to the 513? As you have found... changing bars is $$$ no matter how you slice it... However, once dialed in - makes for a great ride. It took me a while on both the RG and EG but after the dial... on the RG CA to Savannagh and back using the 517's - felt great.. This June, 28 states and 7400 miles on the EG with the Flanders - again, all dialed in and felt great...

100 miles on a bike that is not dialed can be painful - I really do understand your pain

I don't have them myself, but my buddy bert does on his Street Glide and with his customized sundowner seat that bike is just heaven to sit on.

Here's a link to his page with some info, he's a member here as well:

I'm considering a similar setup for my RK just want to get some more miles on my bike first and take a long trip on it before changing bars, as seat selection will have a lot to do with it. Basically I want to decide on a seat first before changing bars.

The factory bars don't cause me any pain, they're just lower than I would prefer, almost sport bike low for me. I'm not a small guy @ 5'11 and 230 lbs, I love the width of the factory bars, and even a little wider would be nice, but I would much rather have my bars up higher, and not sure if I want to get into Ape's either, as if I don't like them it's a costly learning process.

Maybe I could step on some bars and take some bend out?

Have you checked out the Wild Chubby's 8.5" Baby Ape?
Really comfortable bar on the RG.
