Opinions please, on which drop-in cam for ultra-low grunt on a stock 96 (I know, don't go having any romantic delusions of pavement-ripping torque from the stocker) plus feedback on what to do to stock heads to help out cam switch.
Dumb question regarding the stock cam: I know it's an EPA smog cam, but what does that mean in terms of how the power is spread out over the rev band? Knowing that my 96 and its gearing will be "happier" with a cam set up to come on sooner, is there any real advantage to keeping the stock cam in place?
Does it drop in just like the SE 255? What have you done motor-wise?
If you go with the chain drive cam , any one of them will install just like the screamin eagle cams . I haven't done any motor upgrades yet . I have been reading/studying and talking to a lot of people who have , though . I want a cam that brings the torque on just after idle . I don't ride around at 100mph . I do how ever love to get up to about 80-90mph REAL quick , then ease off and just cruise . I think from a look at the dyno sheet on S&S web site , the 551s offer that . Plus...it's S&S .
The 583s look pretty good too.http://www.sscycle.com/feature/featureview.php?s_id=10
