im replacing my factory deck on a 04 ultra with an alpine deck and was wondering if the resident gurus on here could give me an idea on what harnesses and connectors ill need to get for my installer. also is there a kit ill need to get to have the new deck fit correctly? ill be getting rid of the cb and intercom and want to keep hand controls the same as stock. i see biketronics have some kits but id like to get some info on which one/s i might need. any help is appreciated.
I bet if you get hold of Biketronics, they could tell you what you need.
After all, your probably going to order parts from them.
If I ever install a stereo, it will be an Alpine! I'll accept no substitutes
I have got an 04 flht with a Biketronics setup.I highly recomend a Marine head unit.First for the water damage and second for seeing display in sunlite. I like biketronics better mainly because they are the only one I know of offering AVC and their customer support is second to none.I have an Alpine 9886m marine head unit with an Alpine 45 watt plug in amp ($100) hertz 6.5 in speakers, hogtunes tweeter pod.Anuyways this is plenty for me.I could have spent more and bought a more powerful amp,but I DONT NEED IT.
On the first page of the Touring forum is a "sticky" for Biketronics installation. It's very thorough with lots of pictures. Although it's for a newer model year, your installation will be virtually identical, so it should be helpful.
The Biketronics and Hawg-wired interface modules (necessary to have handlebar controls of the head unit) plug in between the bike's Base Audio Connector (a 23-wire connector) and the head unit. So there is no additional wiring harness required.
Since you have an Ultra, the rear speaker signal is carried to the speakers by the Ultra connector (a separate 23-wire connector) plugged into the back of the OEM radio on the top left (rider's perspective) of the radio.
To have the rear speakers connected to the Alpine head unit, those speaker wires need to be removed from the Ultra connector, or simply cut off and connected to the +/- posts of the rear speaker outputs of the Alpine head unit.
The rear speaker wires needed from the Ultra connector are from the numbered chambers of the connector:
