I have a 2004 Roadking with a standard two piece seat (Removable passenger pad) and I'd like to fit a riders backrest.
So far it seems I might need to replace the seat with one that has a 'slot' to accomodate the backrest bracket, and I guess to space underneath to allow for the fitting kit.
Thing is (apart from cost) I'm really happy with my seat and want to keep it if I can.
Does anyone know of a set up that will allow me to have a rider backrest with the standard two piece seat?
hey norton19s
there are better seats(ones that reduce pressure points)out there that come with a backrest slot and a backrest for about $100 more than the mounting hardware and backrest from harley...... i know cuz i put on a "mustang w/removable backrest......" there are a lot of things you can do to ur bike for looks but this seat thing is for your comfort.... do not pass up the chance to do it right the first time.
look around and ask around and you will be the winner.

I'd be interested in where I can find a Mustang seat with backrest for around $320. (the HD backrest and mounting kit is $220.) the cheapest Mustang I found is $479 w/backrest.
Sorry I don't know the exact details of an aftermarket seat that would have a back-rest slot but I can tell you that the back-rest itself is worth the entire price.
Even after a long days ride, I can still do a back stretch and find the seat with rest to be very comfortable.
Whatever seat and backrest you decide to get, make sure it's adjustable. It's nice to be able to change the position of the backrest when doing long distance riding.
