Also, the stock headpipe setup has a major crimp on the tube that runs under the swingarm, to clear the swingarm and belt. The aftermarket headpipes transition this area smoother with better flow.

They don't go under the swing arm on a 2010.

I just cut a 3"x4" access cover that gets hidden behind the shields and painted it with some high temp header paint after I had it welded back in. You can tell by the blueing of the pipe where it starts and ends.

How about just knocking it out without cutting it apart? I have done this with the cats on cars. It looks to me like it could be done on the bike. Remove the muffler and knock it out with a long punch and hammer. You could suck the internals out with a shop vac.

Better to buy a Fuel Moto (or other) head pipe and save the stocker for when you trade or sell the bike. Even though there is no statewide EPA stamp here in IL, I still am pretty sure it is illegal to sell a vehicle without a cat that came stock with one. May or may not be a problem then depending on who the buyer might be.

Here's a thought. Install a Stage 1, new exhaust, race tuner, dyno. About $1,500 total, if you go with the V&H Pro Pipe. It will cost more if you go with true duals, i.e., more header pipe and heat shielding, plus another muffler. I chose the Pro Pipe because the 2-1 is unique to 2010 Street Glides and Road Glides. And the other reasons I chose this pipe is because it sounds great (wicked when I get on it!!) and this set up increased horse power by about 20%. Getting about 40 MPG.

Remember, the bike doesn't have to be fast, but it needs to look fast and sound fast!!

See attached pics.

yeah, good luck with that. this cat is different than what i was used to on cars. it is not ceramic. if you tried to do it without cutting the pipe in half, it will take you forever, plus a couple of hours to do.

someone had used an air hammer after cutting theirs in half and that went pretty well. i didn't have one, so i did the hammer and punch thing. that was 2 hrs of pounding before i was finally done.

That's good to know. I would go with a new head pipe anyway. The performance would be better.
