Default Saddlebag suicide or theft

How often does this happen where one of our baggers will lose one on the road or have them stolen.

I see ads for bag security fasteners and wonder if there is truly a need (for me).

Default I wonder too...

It seems as though this is greatly dependent on where you live. I park in a public ramp day in and day out downtown Madison WI. I leave my jacket and other things in the bags and have not had a problem in the 9 years I have been riding. It may be because a lot of the people who use the ramp are LEOs, but I don't know.

As a matter of fact, I had a Rifle in the original Browing box on the back a week ago. Went into Menards and came out and it was still bungied to the back. (I wouldn't recommend this, it was late and I hurried.) Who would be stupid enough to leave a rifle on the back of a bike in its origal box anyway?

I've heard about bags being stolen and about bags falling off because the pins were not engaged properly.
As far as addressing the issues you can pick up everything you need to make a secure anti-theft replacement system at your local hardware store for a few $$$.

I don`t think the dzus fastener can unlock by itself much less both of them at the same time. If security is an issue most hardware stores have adequate selections of clip nuts and bolts. It`s not a bad idea to secure one end of the saddlebag with a bolt and clip nut.... JMO.

I've never heard of saddlebags being stolen around here. The contents, however, I have seen that first hand.

A Clevis pin, some washers and a hitch pin clip will do the job for cheap. Just make sure you insert the clip on the inside of your bag and you will be good to go ha ha.

As mentioned, seems to be all about the area. I remember seeing about bags being popped off a lot in one poster's area. Guess it's like the T-Tops & pickup tailgate thing-some places it was impossible to keep 'em on but easy to buy them cheap...................

Angry

one of the stock u clips broke and I just replaced them all with 5/16 u-nut
and 5/16 x 1" button head screw from Ace hardware, total cost about $5.
still takes me about 2 min to take off bag
as far as security, they can still pop my RK windsheild off and my
detachable backrest. don't worry, be happy!

Take the clip off the back of each bag holder and put in a 5/16" bolt and a fiber lock nut. ( Taser works too )
