I just got back from the Harley dealer and have some questions. I have been riding a 94 softail custom now for 12 years and decided I would like a Roadking. Something a little more friendly at 70mph for long trips.
1st question, I have heard of some problems on the 07 twin cam 96's dealing with remapping problems to meet the EPA
standards. Also, possible problems with 6 speed transmission, I have only seen one thread on the transmission. Any feedback would be appreciated.
2nd question. I was quoted $19709.00 Drive out, it was just the basic black Roadking with a 6% sales tax. $17345.00 MSRP plus shipping, setup tax an title. Again comments, would this be considered a good price or bad.
Finally, is the stock seat any good particullarly for the passanger. Opinions appreciated.
If its a regular FLHR you got quoted MSRP...however I would try to get the setup fee dropped and maybe a discount on parts but thats me. You would make an OK deal a good deal IMO. As far as the seat goes I can only speak from my RoadKing which is an FLHRSI. The seats OK...its a Harley seat. I am trying something with a Softail seat I have (Badlander) and I'll post results in a few weeks. Basically I sent it out to have special medical grade inserts put in that are used for burn victims and people with bedsores. It supposedly puts no pressure on the affected area. We will see.
Many people on other forums have posted about a noisy 5th gear in the six speeds.
Sorry for the long post...hope it helped. Ride Safe.
The price seems to be ok or good. I got 20% off all accessories I added when I picked up my Bike. Try the HD sundowner seat on your Road King, It made a big difference with my wife. She also would not ride till I had the backrest on. See what they will do in regards to the seat and backreast when you pick up your bike.
Jeff
Concerning your 2nd question: I wouldn't pay anything above MSRP plus tax. Shop around at other dealers @ 6% sales tax the total is 18,385.70 OTD Max. Also ask for (shop) for discounts on parts, service, etc. .02
The mapping and the 6 speed problems, don't know much about except what I read on this forum, but the seat, if it is like the 06 FLHR my wife rode once and said no way, bought a 51157-04A seat, she loves to ride now. She does have a tour pack for a back rest also. Ride safe.
Love my FLH. Yes 5th gear whines when you dog it (when 4th would be a better choice) It runs lean but they all do thanks to the EPA(nothing you can't fix by changing pipes and air box + adding SERT or PCIII) Seat is comfy for 2 up riding (I couldn't get my wife on my other bikes...now I can't get her off the back of the Road King)
IMO thumbs up the the 07 FLHRC!
only problem maping a 07 is its a new motor and updated efi system, there will be many options as the aftermarket catchs up. tranny, some owners of ultras hear more noise due to lower fairings and I read about one getting a new trans, not a big deal IMO just a bug or two in first run production, read about many more who love their 07.
I bought an '04 FLHPI in May with 82 miles on it...so basically brand new. My dealership was pretty firm on the price (they came down about $500.00) and gave me what I think was a pretty good deal on driver and passenger backrests. So, back to the point, sounds like you did ok. As far as the seat goes, I am pretty simple and I love the RK seat. I had a 750 A.C.E. before my King, so right now I am in hog heaven...no pun intended. I am sure that if I were to sit on something a little more high class I would want it right now, which is exactly why I don't sit on something more high class. I have almost landed myself in the doghouse or worse because of this bike a few times, and bringing home a $500.00+ seat would really top the cake.
As far as the factory lean condition is concerned, I put a PCIII on with the Wild Pig slip-ons and have noticed a significant power increase. I am not really looking to smoke any other bikes or cars, but speed sometimes saves lives...just like loud pipes. There is another aspect to the enriched fuel/air mix that I don't see a lot of people talking about and that is a richer mix burns cooler and will lengthen the life of your engine, especially if you do want to smoke other bikes and cars. I wouldn't say that a PCIII or a SERT is a must, because there are a lot of things that you can do to the bike without them, but it is handy to have on hand should you get the speed bug, and it will increase performance.
i cant speak on your quoted price, but when i bought mine- the dealer waived the 'set up fee' when i bought the extended warranty. the fee was over $500- amazing....
but- i absolutely LOVE my rk classic... and with the quick release backrest for the wife- shes comfy.
she doesnt like it too much when i take the windshield off though.
